Original oil paintings · Made to order · Est. 2013

Mid-century abstraction, made to measure.

We paint original works in the great post-war idioms: the zip, the color field, the drip. Period-correct oils and techniques, in your palette, at your dimensions. One of one, every time.

Original color field oil painting by Artful Abstraction
One painting, four palettes —
A real painting, previewed in shifted palettes. Your commission is mixed to your exact swatches, in oil, not in a filter.

Period-correct

A decade spent reverse-engineering post-war technique: the grounds, the pigments, the tools. The surface reads right because the method is right.

Made to your spec

You choose the palette and the dimensions. Send a paint chip, a fabric swatch, or a photo of the rug it has to live with. We'll match it.

One of one

No prints, no editions, no giclée. Every canvas is painted once, by hand, and shipped to exactly one wall: yours.

The works

Three idioms.
Endless variations.

Every piece below is a starting point, not a product. The size, the palette, and the proportions are yours to call.

Original zip painting: a vertical band of color dividing a wide field

The Zip

After Barnett Newman, 1948–

A single vertical charge of color dividing a vast field. The smallest inventory of moves in painting, and the hardest to get right. Contemplative up close, commanding across the room.

Up to 5 × 8 ft · field + two colors From $999
Commission a zip
Original color field painting with soft stacked planes of color

The Color Field

After Mark Rothko, 1949–

Soft-edged planes of pigment that seem to breathe, shifting with the light across the day. Quiet in a way that takes over a room. The most requested piece for living spaces, for good reason.

Up to 9 × 11 ft · up to three tones From $2,800
Commission a field
Original action painting with layered drips and gestural splatter

The Action Painting

After Jackson Pollock, 1947–

Drip, flick, and full-body gesture, locked in oil. Controlled chaos with real depth, built up layer over layer. The loudest thing we make, and the format that loves a wide wall.

Up to 5 × 11 ft · up to five colors From $3,499
Commission an action painting

Common questions

Things designers
and collectors ask.

Don't see yours? Email us and we'll add it.

How long does a custom abstract painting commission take?

Most works ship within 4 to 6 weeks of palette and dimension approval. Larger pieces or scheduled install dates can be coordinated; tell us your timeline when you write in.

Can I commission a painting in the style of Rothko, Pollock, or Newman?

Yes. Our work is built in three idioms drawn directly from those artists: the color field after Rothko, the zip after Barnett Newman, and the action painting after Pollock. Each is made original to your palette and dimensions, not as a copy of any existing work.

Do you offer trade pricing for interior designers and architects?

Yes. We work regularly with designers and architects on residential and commercial projects, with trade pricing, digital mockups for client presentations, and scheduling around install dates. Email us with your firm and project details to get started.

Can you match a specific paint color or fabric swatch?

Yes. Send us a paint chip, a Pantone reference, a fabric sample, or photos of the room and we will mix the painting to match. Period-correct oils give us the full range of saturation and warmth that off-the-shelf reproductions cannot.

Do you ship internationally?

Yes. Works ship worldwide, insured door to door. Smaller pieces ship stretched and ready to hang; oversized canvases ship rolled and crated for cost-effective international shipping, with hanging instructions included.

What materials and techniques do you use?

Oil paint on stretched canvas, built up using the period-correct techniques Sarina has spent a decade studying. Grounds, pigments, and tools are selected to match the materials each idiom was originally painted with.
